As photojournalist we have the task to report about what happened during a event or document a certain situation for a short or longer period of time. Of course each photographers chooses the things he or she wants to show, but how you show it and the way you show it is of great importance. Recently there was an article by Villamedia ( union of journalists from the Netherlands) an article written by Theo Audenaerd (photo editor of the de Volkskrant) about a picture made by one of their photographers DANIEL ROSENTHAL PHOTOGRAPHER. Only the tittle ” Photographer Daniel Rosenthal saw Space Invaders at farmer’s protest ” already shows the superficiality of the report that has been made but also what is important or interesting in their own view. For me the way this picture is used shows a severe misrepresentation of both the photographer and the writer / photo editor of this article. It is not surprising that the general public believes and trust and relies less and less on the media. Whether you agree or disagree with the people you photograph, everybody has a story to tell and actually for the sake of society it is important to listen to people instead of making caricatures of them. By listenning to eachother there comes more understanding. Regarding the image itself, it is in my eyes of poor quality, the focus is immediatelly on the belly of one of the prostetors and you can feel that it is an image that was done without consent. A bit of photoshop makes this images look fancy. But in a way this is a snapshot which doesn’t reveal much about the reason why those people are blokking the roads. There is a strong need for more in depth reportage about what is going on in our country and in the world. Fast journalism is like fast food, it doesn’t last long, is of bad quality and is usually even unhealthy.
