Marketing & Community Manager - Quantum Network Explorer

Logo QuTech

QuTech is a mission-driven research institute run jointly by Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). Together, we work on a radically new technology with world-changing potential, developing scalable prototypes of a quantum computer and an intrinsically safe quantum internet.

We are creating the quantum future, and we believe that quantum technology will be a game changer in many social and economic sectors – including health, agriculture, climate and safety. To achieve our ambitious goals, we bring together scientists, engineers and industry in an inspiring environment, with plenty of space for ambition, entrepreneurship and innovation. Our research and engineering activities are conducted in three divisions: Quantum Computing, Quantum Internet and Qubit Research. 220 FTE and over 300 curious people work in our divisions and support teams, and we actively welcome new colleagues who share our vision and enthusiasm.

Have a look at our video and get a glimpse of QuTech.

Quantum Internet Division
The QuTech Quantum Internet Division works on enhancing our global communications network via a Quantum Internet. This is a radically new technology that can connect (quantum) devices such as quantum computers over large distances. Unlike classical networks using conventional information, a quantum internet distributes quantum information. This allows for many innovations, including levels of privacy, security and computation power that are impossible to achieve with today’s internet. Our mission is to provide the building blocks for the future quantum internet AND to build the worldwide quantum internet community.

One reason why the classical internet grew so quickly was straightforward and cheap access for network engineers, programmers and users. We envision a similar environment for the quantum internet, and this is illustrated by our demonstrator Quantum Network Explorer (QNE). QNE will showcase our developments and make quantum technology accessible to a wider audience and future users. Anyone interested is being invited to “play” with the technology, become educated and involved, and work together towards making the quantum internet a reality.

What you will do
The Marketing & Community Manager role is new. You will be the first to build this pioneering position within the Quantum Internet Division. It involves marketing the demonstrator QNE and starting to develop and maintain a worldwide quantum internet community. Although it is a new position, you will be far from isolated. You will be backed up by QuTech Communication, Quantum Delft plus Quantum Delta NL Communication and by your colleagues within the Internet Division.

QNE is now embedded within the Quantum Internet Division. We envision that QNE will become part of Quantum Delta NL (QDNL) at a later stage – a strategic collaboration of Dutch quantum institutes, companies and government entities. QDNL aims to position the Netherlands as front runner in quantum technology industry and we foresee an important and growing role for QNE.

As our Marketing & Community Manager your primary goal will be to grow and maintain an active community of users around our demonstrator QNE, developing and executing communication and marketing strategies. You will regularly dive into the community and engage with all parties involved to stay up to date.

In collaboration with your Quantum Internet colleagues, you will be responsible for organising engaging activities for users (students, engineers and companies). They will be encouraged to co-build and use the future quantum internet and to form the core source of our quantum internet community.

Acting at both strategic and operational levels, you will also update the QNE website and social media. By understanding QNE’s target groups and how to interact with them in a creative and effective way, you will advise the rest of the Quantum Internet Division on how to engage with these target groups. You will be reporting to our Quantum Internet Division Coordinator.

What you need to offer
• Previous experience in community building (online & offline), preferably in a technical environment.
• An ability to develop communication and marketing plans, with a strong record in marketing and brand building, and a knowledge of CMS plus social media marketing & analytics tools.
• At least 5 years of experience in a similar position, and relevant education at academic level.
• An ability to work both independently and within a small team, simultaneously managing multiple projects.
• An eye for design, and an ability to work with digital design tools.
• A feeling for the work environment, and awareness of the various interests at play.
• Fascination with physics, and the ability to bring Quantum technology to the new users’ community.

Conditions of employment
The Marketing & Community Manager position is a 0.8 – 1.0 FTE role, with a minimum of 32 hours per week and a maximum of 38 hours per week. Temporary contract for one year with the possibility to become structural. The UFO profile is that of Project Leader – Project Manager, with a full-time salary based on VSNU-CAO Scale 10-11 (salary min 2,790 – max 5,127 gross per month on a fulltime basis). Actual salary will be based on your knowledge and relevant work-experience.

TU Delft/QuTech offers a customizable compensation package, an attractive pension scheme, holiday allowance, generous holidays, 13th month pay (paid as a pro-rata bonus in December), a discount for health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged. An International Children’s Centre offers our employees child care and an international primary school. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (VSNU-CAO). Dutch citizenship or a European working permit is required to apply.

TU Delft
Your contract will be with Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), an organisation built on strong foundations. As creators of the world-famous Dutch waterworks, and pioneers in biotech, TU Delft is a top international university combining science, engineering and design. It delivers world class results in education, research and innovation.

For generations, our engineers have proven to be entrepreneurial problem-solvers in both business and social contexts. TU Delft offers 16 Bachelor’s and 32 Master’s programs to more than 23,000 students. Our scientific staff consists of 3,500 staff members and 2,800 PhD candidates. Together we imagine, invent and create solutions using technology to ensure positive change on a global scale: Challenge. Change. Impact!
